Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga

Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga

Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is a style of yoga as excercise popularised by K. Pattabhi Jois during the 20th century, often promoted as a modern – day form of classical Indian yoga. He claimed to have learnt the system from his teacher, Tirumalai Krishnamacharya. The style is energetic, synchronising breath with movements. Simply put, Ashtanga yoga is a traditional series of postures done in the same order every time. Also very simply put, Vinyasa is like freestyle Ashtanga.. The major difference is the creative license that the Vinyasa teacher takes in building the sequences and varying the pace between poses.
In Sanskrit, ashtanga means eight – limbed (asta – light, anga limb), Ashtanga Yoga is an eight – limbed path towards achieving the state of Yoga, also known as Samadhi…. Yoga is not only the state of Yoga, but also the practice, or sadhana, we engage in on the path towards Yoga.
